Comparison is the greatest thief of joy! Stop right now!

I can't say I am not guilty of this. In fact, I have compared myself, my life, the way I live, etc. to so many people in the past. There were times I thought I was better than some and there were times I thought I am no better than anyone. I just couldn't stop comparing! When I first attended a Youth Camp back when I was in the Philippines in the 90's, someone spoke about this topic of comparison. I don't remember the exact same words of the speaker but I remember these words - DO NOT COMPARE YOURSELF OR OTHERS TO OTHERS - and it resonated in me and has changed my perspective since. I truly believe that the root of all these are envy, Insecurity, and jealousy. What's the difference?

There are two kinds of envy; 1.) Benign (Holy) Envy and 2.) Malicious (Evil) envy. Benign or holy envy as my Youth Pastor calls it is the kind of emotion that motivates and drives us to work hard to achieve what we aspire in life. This is a good envy because obviously, you do not wish anything bad for anyone nor put someone else down to rise on the surface. You work hard and you look at others as an inspiration. You work on improving yourself and be better than you were yesterday. On the other hand, malicious envy is obviously the exact opposite. We call it the "Crab Mentality" in my country. When we try to put someone else down, we wish for others to be in bad situation, or we are not happy for their success, when we think we are better than others, when we try to one up others etc. STOP RIGHT NOW!!!

Although I still caught myself sometimes when I look on my IG page and I scroll down to other creatives' pages that I follow, I am still kinda like wow her aesthetic is amazing. Then I look at my IG page and I'm like meh! Good thing I have some blogger friends who reminds me to not compare and just be myself which is funny because I say the same thing when someone come to me for advice. Isn't that ironic?

Stop comparing yourself with other people. Stop thinking that you are better than anyone nor others are better than you. Keep doing YOU! Stop comparing your work, your art, your content creation, your Instagram aesthetic, your life, your parenting skills, your skin care, your body, your beauty routine, your kids, your spouse/better half, your parents, your siblings, anything! Do not try to be someone you are not! Be YOURSELF! Learn to accept your situation and do something good to make it better and better everyday. Stop thinking of what other people think about you. Would you rather be loved for who you are than for someone who you are not? When you stop comparing yourself and stop thinking about what others think of you but rather what would God think of you, I guarantee you 101% that you will be so much happier. Because at the end of the day, it's between you and God. Aim to be a better person today than you were yesterday. Also, be happy for others success and accomplishments. It's ok to be envy as long as it is the benign or holy type. Always do the right thing!
